Projects
Health Camp
Chontong, India

Partnering
with the Rotary Club of Darjeeling, Worlds Touch raised funds and
conducted a day-long "health camp" for the residents of
a defunct tea plantation. Eight local doctors, working pro bono,
saw just over 600 patients that day, performing medical, eye, dental
and gynecological exams. Worlds Touch provided free medication and
followup visits.
Hayden Hall
Darjeeling,
India

Worlds
Touch worked closely with staffers in the development of an addition
to the Hayden Hall website that would showcase the work of the women's
handicrafts cooperative. Hayden Hall is a 35-year-old social service
organization that empowers the poor women of the Darjeeling area.
It trains paramedical workers for outlying villages, provides medical
treatment, education of youth, job skills training, day care, and
micro-finance opportunity for women and their children. Worlds Touch
also did a technology assessment, provided social enterprise research,
including Fair Trade status information.
Rotary Club
Darjeeling,
India
Executive
director Patricia Perkins, working under the auspices of Rotary
International as a Cultural Ambassadorial Scholar, worked closely
with the Rotary Club of Darjeeling in all their community support
activities, including Spread the Happiness (a gift- and fun-filled
day for poor children), Read Darjeeling (a project to encourage
reading and establish a library), and the Clock Tower restoration
project (revitalizing a city landmark.) Worlds Touch helped improve
club communications with an updated email list, a blog, a Flickr
photo sharing account, and a YouTube account.
Open Forum
Phnom Penh, Cambodia
Worlds
Touch conducted a month-long research project for the Community
News web site that was linked to 23 community technology centers
through the Cambodian countryside. The site, often the only news
source available to villagers, provided unbiased news digests, photos
and profiles of newsmakers. Worlds Touch investigated the feasibility
and process of converting the site from proprietary to open source
software.
League of Human Rights
Noumea,
New Caledonia
Worlds
Touch conducted an information recoverty project to enable the League
of Human Rights to overhaul their web site. The League of Human
Rights advocates for the poor and those suffering from injustice
and discrimination in New Caledonia.

Future Plans
Worlds
Touch will be working closer to home for most of 2007, though a
return to India and Nepal is planned for early fall. We've very
excited about our new San Diego office and the expanded opportunities
that office will provide.
